Serendipity, A Modular Shelving Unit

serendipity modular shelving

I thought perhaps it was time again to introduce a bit more of my own work to you guys. This is a prototype of a modular shelving system I designed, quite by accident really. I was playing with a few bits of paper, had cut out long rectangles and stacked them, then of course started playing with them because I couldn’t sit still… and low and behold this shape occurred. I ran with it, and Serendipity was born.

Serendipity is about accidental discovery. The modular system allows for endless options and the light weight provides maximum durability and versatility. Play with different compositions of the units, and choose any graphics desired. Whimsical in nature, this shelf is an invitation to indulge the child within.

Made of a combination of single pieces, the units stack on top of each other to form the shapes. The balance looks delicate, but it is actually quite sturdy.

  • Nice fluid quality which is the opposite to shelving units which are usually so stagnant. I would love to see these in use, very nice.

    • I would love to get them produced! Just have to figure out how exactly to go about that…

  • Thank you! I think I misunderstood the prompt, as my contribution is not a sketch, but it is a handmade model if that counts. Your sketch is lovely as well!! 🙂

    • Art comes in all shapes and forms. And thank you!

      • It does indeed! Looking forward to the submissions for next week. 🙂

  • Thank you!! It was truly formed by accident, while I was playing with a few bits of rectangular paper. Add a few wires and some graphics, and voila! 🙂
