Post Graffiti Art: Nuno de Matos

I first discovered the graffiti art on canvas by Nuno de Matos (aka Matox) through his 2009 exhibit in Toulouse. It was titled “Abstracto Express”, and was held at the Galerie du cercle des Arts. Words cannot express how cool I think these pieces are. So, I’ll let the images do the work for me.

Matos was born in Lisbon, Portugal and grew up in the town of Saint-Céré in France. His work draws largely from the abstract expressionist style and street art of Lisbon and Barcelona. If there is a graffiti related art form, he has done it. Light Graffiti, neo-graffiti, projection on walls, you name it.

Matos’s artwork has been widely exhibited in galleries throughout Europe, and has more recently had shows in the United States, Qatar and the United Arab Emerites. His bold pieces certainly command an audience. It’s not cake icing, but still a different take on the traditional graffiti style.
