Bar Rouge: The Prince of Shanghai Nightlife

Ice clinks in the glasses. The sound of laughter carries in the light breeze coming off the Huangpu River, keeping the rooftop guests cool at the city’s hottest night spot. Beats from the world’s best DJs add another level of sensory experience to the rich texture that is: Bar Rouge, Shanghai.

The ambiance offered at this partially outdoor bar is unparalleled. The lucky (and brilliant) team behind the scenes snatched one of the most prime real estate spots on The Bund, overlooking the famous skyline. The clientele is a mix of both China’s and Europe’s trendiest, making this the “see and be seen” place to go. And not only for the sweeping view.

To access this international oasis, you must of course take an elevator. All the way to the very top. The doors open, and guests are immediately immersed in the rouge (red) theme. The space is divided between an interior lounge area, and the rooftop. Notice the attention to detail: every element is specifically designed to provide party goers with the most extravagant and luxurious experience imaginable. Is there any wonder this place was nominated That’s Shanghai’s Bar & Club of the Year for 2012?

With all the praises sung in honor of Bar Rouge… why call it merely the prince of Shanghai nightlife? One simple reason: pure fun. A king would be dignified, attracting maybe an older set, perhaps smoking cigars while sipping on brandy. That is not this scene. Bar Rouge is undeniably wild, in a roguish, fun-loving way. Patrons of all ages, and all nationalities come here to throw caution to the wind for one night, and let the proverbial hair down.

Bar Rouge is more than a bar; it is alchemy – a magic formula that blends the crowd, drinks and music into a fantastic venue where the night becomes alive.  – Bar Rouge Press Release

They are quite well-known for their calendar of parties.

I was fortunate enough to discover this little gem of a place during my whirlwind trip to Shanghai. My friend and I popped up during the White Party, in which everyone is required to wear white (hence the name). It was a crazy, spontaneous, fabulous night, as you can see from the event gallery. Sadly, I did not make it into any pictures… will have to try again next time I pass through town.
