It’s been quiet around here lately… but not because I’ve been kicking my sandals off in the sand in a quest for that golden glowing summer skin.
No, the only glow I’ve been getting lately is an unfortunate side effect of my Mac computer screen, and it’s my eyes that have been dealt the brunt of the blow. Part of this is due to a brand new opportunity that came my way recently – one that I didn’t hesitate to snatch up as fast as my fingers could grasp it.
But more on that later.
Now, I want to fill you in on another passion project that’s been taking up a large portion of my time.
This Thursday, myself and eight other travel media professionals shall be converging on the island of Anguilla for the first ever #CaptureAnguilla Experiential Luxury Travel Writer’s Retreat. And it’s going to be absolutely fabulous.
The seed for the idea was planted shortly after I returned from my much shorted attempt at moving to New Zealand. Upon my return, I contacted Lacy Colley Yamaoka of the expâté, the Queen of Caribbean Cool herself, regarding in itch to jet off and check out her corner of the world. Since I’d be in Florida, why not explore things closer to my own backyard? The idea snow-balled, and we brought on Kristen Kellogg of Border Free Travels to help organize and plan the first event of its kind on the island of Anguilla.
We started working towards making this a reality immediately – secured hotels, found brands with which to partner, research unique activities that went beyond the usual experiences – and now, after months of preparation, it’s finally here.
We gathered together a fantastic group. Some I’ve known through social media for ages, and it will no doubt feel surreal to be meeting these individuals in person finally after so much interaction online. Others I’ve just been introduced to. All seem like amazingly talented, enthusiastic people who couldn’t be more excited to be spending four days sampling the best the island has to offer.
Most of the five-day, four-night retreat will be documented in real time on social media. Instagram and Twitter, primarily. I will be taking over the Instagram account of Àni Villas, the villa where our group will be staying for the second two nights. Kristen will be taking over Skype’s Instagram, while Jess of Dining Traveler will be taking over the Viceroy Anguilla’s Instagram, where we will spend our first two nights.
